Cabernet Sauvignon, New Releases

2017 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon

2017 La Sirena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is available now! Since the first La Sirena Cab vintage in 1996, it has been a Napa Valley favorite, and an expression of Heidi’s powerful-yet-balanced, elegant style of winemaking.

Tasting Notes: Tasted 08/14/20 by HPB

We were extremely lucky to harvest this fruit before the fires of 2017, so we were able to produce a wine of pure character with zero smoke damage. The 2017 La Sirena Cab is very dark blackberry in color, with the ripe, layered aromatics of Cab Sauv and a lifted note from the addition of Cab Franc. Across the palate the wine is vibrant, balanced, and explosive with flavor.  Soft and silky in texture, yet has a powerful structure and expression of fruit. Flavors are black fruit-driven with dark cherry and berry notes dominating, layered with sweet toasty French oak as a complement. Ageworthy yet approachable as of this tasting. Tannins are pretty mild in this vintage, not needing much time in the bottle at all. A great example of classic Napa Cab – purely delicious!

Tasting notes

As we forge ahead with harvest 2019, we are excited to unveil a gorgeous new release: our flagship 2016 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon.

2016 as a vintage marked the end of the multi-year drought (2012-2015) – we finally got a lot of RAIN! It was a glorious and much-appreciated return to “normalcy”, and sometimes normal is the best thing you can ask for. We saw optimal growing weather throughout the spring and summer, a nice steady harvest season, normal crop levels – for once, it was basically a textbook, ideal Napa season, and we expect to see some truly classic wines from the 2016 vintage as a result.

Tasting Notes: Tasted 10/01/19 by HPB

The 2016 Cab is ripe and concentrated, darkly colored and very aromatic in the glass. Immediate notes of blackberry pie, plum, and black cherry are rounded out with 5 spice, cedar, and an accent of toasty French oak. Big flavors meld with a plush, velvety texture on the palate – tannins are velvety and integrated, providing the structure to make this wine cellar-worthy for many years to come. A strong initial burst of flavor followed by a round mid-palate, culminating in a long finish – it’s a complete wine that leaves a lasting impression. A gorgeous, classic expression of Napa Valley Cabernet – powerful and well-balanced.

As we forge ahead with harvest 2018, we are excited to unveil a gorgeous new release: our flagship 2015 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon. Heidi says, “I love working with Cabernet Sauvignon because it is Napa Valley’s most sought-after & highly regarded varietal, and the most challenging to excel at consistently. It always gives me a sense of accomplishment when it turns out to be delicious. Plus, I like that all that work can last for many years in the cellar and continue to be enjoyed over time. My La Sirena Cab reflects my devotion to balance, elegance, winemaking tradition and classic varietal styling.”

2015 as a vintage was marked as the most intense year of the multi-year drought (following 2012, 2013, and 2014) and the year in which the effects of the drought were most deeply felt. This resulted in extremely low yields and lower production quantities, but the wines that were produced were extremely concentrated and flavorful.

Tasting Notes: Tasted 10/17/18 by HPB

This gorgeous 2015 Cab is dense and concentrated, starting with very dark ruby color in the glass. Aromas are Napa Valley at its best – layers of ripe berries, cherries, red currants, and toasty refined French oak accents. Open and expressive, with velvety and explosive flavors across the palate. Blackberry-like ripe Cab flavors with amazing silky textural tannins and a persistent long finish. Power packed concentration from this low production vintage. Already delicious upon release, and will surely be an appealing wine for collectors – its powerful structure and rich flavors ensure this wine will be a favorite for years to come.

Tasting notes

Like the popular 2012 & 2013 vintages, 2014 was a hot, early harvest season with a lot of concentrated, big, ripe wines produced. The effects of the drought continued to be felt, and it was also the year of the south Napa earthquake, which occurred on August 24th. In spite of these challenges, wine critics & producers lauded the vintage, and it has been an anticipated release in the years since then. We are proud to offer you our 2014 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes: Tasted 10/30/17 by HPB

Our beautiful 2014 Cab is dark blackberry in color with open aromas of ripe berries, currants, cocoa powder, and a hint of licorice. Very pure and concentrated with lovely french oak nuances and layers. Across the palate, it is expressive, explosive yet refined, with great balance and ripeness, and no trace of bitterness. Perfectly chewy textural tannins in the mid palate with amazing length. Impressive right out of the gate, but will prove to be quite age worthy as well. I think this wine is really delicious and hope you love it too!

2013 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon

2013 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon Release2013 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon is available now!

Cabernet Sauvignon is my favorite varietal to make, and is what I’m best known for. I love working with Cab because it is Napa Valley’s most sought-after, highly regarded varietal, and the most challenging to do well consistently. It gives a sense of accomplishment when it turns out to be delicious. Plus, I like that all that work can last for many years in the cellar and continue to be enjoyed. My La Sirena Cab reflects my devotion to balance, elegance, winemaking tradition and classic varietal styling.

The 2013 vintage, like that of 2012, was basically a perfect growing season, and may prove to be even better than the 2012.  Slightly smaller crop for 2013 led to a bit more concentrated wines and may be even more ageworthy if well balanced and properly made. Wine critics lauded the vintage, and it has been an anticipated release in the years since then. We are proud to offer you our 2013 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon.

2013 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting Notes: (Tasted 10/21/16 by HPB)
Deep deep dark blackberry in color with open aromas of ripe berries and all the black fruits, currants, plums, and blackberries. Very pure and concentrated with lovely french oak nuances and layers. Across the palate this is about as good as it gets. Delicious, expressive, explosive yet refined. Perfect balance and ripeness. It has the right amount of chewy textural tannins in the mid palate with amazing length. This is a blockbuster vintage and a great example of Cab Sauv at its best. Impressive right out of the shoot, but will prove to be quite age worthy as well. I’m proud of this wine and hope you love it too!

Cabernet Sauvignon, New Releases

NEW RELEASE – 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

The highly touted 2012 vintage produced some incredible wines of perfect ripeness, depth, harmony, and age ability. Our Cab Sauv is a gorgeous deep blackberry jam color with enticing pure clean aromas of ripe Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. The lush open aromas are of black cherry, dark fruits, blackberry, and dark plums layered with sweet and spicy toasty French oak, cedar and mocha. Explosive flavors wow the palate with matching flavors and aromas. This is a big lush mouthful of Cab with medium silky tannins and a symphony of balance. Chewy mid palate texture and long flavors that persist are fantastic.
