As we forge ahead with harvest 2018, we are excited to unveil a gorgeous new release: our flagship 2015 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon. Heidi says, “I love working with Cabernet Sauvignon because it is Napa Valley’s most sought-after & highly regarded varietal, and the most challenging to excel at consistently. It always gives me a sense of accomplishment when it turns out to be delicious. Plus, I like that all that work can last for many years in the cellar and continue to be enjoyed over time. My La Sirena Cab reflects my devotion to balance, elegance, winemaking tradition and classic varietal styling.”

2015 as a vintage was marked as the most intense year of the multi-year drought (following 2012, 2013, and 2014) and the year in which the effects of the drought were most deeply felt. This resulted in extremely low yields and lower production quantities, but the wines that were produced were extremely concentrated and flavorful.

Tasting Notes: Tasted 10/17/18 by HPB

This gorgeous 2015 Cab is dense and concentrated, starting with very dark ruby color in the glass. Aromas are Napa Valley at its best – layers of ripe berries, cherries, red currants, and toasty refined French oak accents. Open and expressive, with velvety and explosive flavors across the palate. Blackberry-like ripe Cab flavors with amazing silky textural tannins and a persistent long finish. Power packed concentration from this low production vintage. Already delicious upon release, and will surely be an appealing wine for collectors – its powerful structure and rich flavors ensure this wine will be a favorite for years to come.

Chardonnay, New Releases

Introducing La Sirena 2016 Chardonnay!

Our first-ever La Sirena Chardonnay! Crisp & Burgundian in style – flavors are bright and clean across the palate with green apple, lemon and pomelo-like fruit character. Lower alcohol (13.2) and crisp acidity make for a delightful fresh old-vine Chardonnay of pure character.

Many of our fans have expressed interest in this over the years and we’re ecstatic to finally make this tiny quantity (170 cases) available to you. So far it is only planned as a one-off vintage (we were not able to procure the same fruit source again since then) so don’t miss out on this rare bottling of Napa Valley’s most popular white varietal!

Tasting Notes: 2016 Chardonnay (tasted 8/17/17 by HPB)

The first release of a very special Chardonnay from the original planting of the Rued clone. These vines were planted in 1969 and are magnificent, with large gnarly trunks and arms. The wine they produce is quite refined, golden light straw in color with aromas of apples, pears, lemon, and floral honeysuckle notes. The clone is known for its somewhat tropical aromatics – some even refer to it as the Muscat clone of Chardonnay. This one just hints at pineapple with a kiss of delicate French oak. Flavors are bright and clean across the palate with green apple, lemon and pomelo-like fruit character. Lower alcohol (13.2) and crisp acidity make for a delightful fresh old-vine Chardonnay of pure character.

Art Bus, New Releases

2014 Art Bus release

Our unique red blend of estate Syrah, estate Cab, and Cab Franc, dedicated to artists everywhere. This is our fourth vintage of Art Bus (following 2008, 2009, and 2012) and we hope you enjoy this creative blend of some of Heidi’s favorite varietals under one of our more whimsical, playful labels.and A portion of the proceeds from Art Bus benefit the charity Heifer International.

Tasting Notes: 2014 Art Bus (tasted 9/11/18 by HPB)

One of my favorite wines to make, Art Bus is a creative blend that shows off the delicious fruit we grow at our own Calistoga property (Cab Sauv and Syrah). We don’t make it every year, but were able to produce its fourth iteration in the bountiful 2014 vintage. It shows a dense, dark ruby color with deep aromas of ripe fruit, black plums, dark cherry, and cedar, with sweet toasty French oak notes. On the palate, it’s very mouth-coating and rich, with explosive flavors. I love the silky yet powerful impact and chewy texture of this wine – it definitely has a wow factor! A big wine that will age nicely, with serious structure and perfect balance – already impressive and enjoyable upon release.

This lovely wine is medium garnet in color with aromas of all spice, plum, rainier cherry, and rose. Beautiful purity of aromatics and flavors. Across the palate it is soft, lush, juicy and quite tasty. Very light tannins add structure and nice texture to the mid palate. Flavors are expressive for Grenache, cherry and plum but with layers and complexity, very rhone-like in profile. Medium body and ready to enjoy now. A delicious expression of Grenache!

Tasting Notes: 2013 “Le Barrettage” (tasted 2/28/18 by HPB)

Impressively dark in the glass, almost black ruby or blackberry in color. Deep aromas of fully ripe fruit, classic Syrah aromas of smoked meat, bacon, both red and black plums, pomegranate juice, mineral earth, and a hint of white pepper. A silk bomb across the palate (it’s a “wow”). Cashmere comes to mind. Flavors are layered and delicious with a seamless long finish. This is a thing of beauty for Rhone style wine lovers and a phenomenal vintage in the Napa Valley. A blend of two different Syrah blocks, Grenache for liveliness, and a tiny splash of Petite Sirah for added power. This delicious proprietary “Rhone style” blend from La Sirena was given an additional year in bottle before release because honestly, it just keeps getting better!

Tasting notes

Like the popular 2012 & 2013 vintages, 2014 was a hot, early harvest season with a lot of concentrated, big, ripe wines produced. The effects of the drought continued to be felt, and it was also the year of the south Napa earthquake, which occurred on August 24th. In spite of these challenges, wine critics & producers lauded the vintage, and it has been an anticipated release in the years since then. We are proud to offer you our 2014 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes: Tasted 10/30/17 by HPB

Our beautiful 2014 Cab is dark blackberry in color with open aromas of ripe berries, currants, cocoa powder, and a hint of licorice. Very pure and concentrated with lovely french oak nuances and layers. Across the palate, it is expressive, explosive yet refined, with great balance and ripeness, and no trace of bitterness. Perfectly chewy textural tannins in the mid palate with amazing length. Impressive right out of the gate, but will prove to be quite age worthy as well. I think this wine is really delicious and hope you love it too!
