Welcome to La Sirena Wines, where I blend the art and science of wine. My philosophy is to make the best wines possible with emphasis on the unique characteristics of each individual vineyard. I try to maximize the potential of each vintage in a very balanced, elegant style of winemaking.
The name "La Sirena" means "the Mermaid " in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I was looking for something fun and magical (like wine) and because I am a scuba diver as well as a winemaker.
Hello friends of La Sirena,
At last, the release of our beautiful 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon. So many of you have been asking us about it and finally here it is! It is a beauty indeed. I have shifted the blend a bit so the wine is more reflective of the wines I used to make for Screaming Eagle. I added some Merlot to this blend (from our Amuse Bouche vineyard), a pinch of Cabernet Franc, and layered in several blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, building the wine, adding depth and length, yet keeping that amazing purity of fruit that is so enticing and so sought after. As with many fine wines, there’s not much available so I encourage you to order right away. A mere 457 cases were produced, 150 magnums, eight 3 Liter bottles, and eight 6 Liter bottles. The French Laundry got the first case! (They also put the Barrett Syrah on the list) We anticipate the wine being available for a 30 day period only. Based on your ordering history and preferences we will be moving to an allocation system after this release. For now, the wine is available at the same price as last year. Call for pricing on the big bottles.
Tasting Notes: Tasted 6/17/2008 by HPB
Yum! (A technical term) The 2005 Cab. Sauv. is an opulent dark cherry color. The nose is open and shows ripe fruit, rose petal, blackberry, and cassis. Layers of spice, tobacco, cedar, and hints of toasty French oak lead you to flavors that match the aromas. Wonderful purity. Very silky, yet flavorful, the wine simply flows across the palate. Amazing length, as I write these notes, I can still taste the wine minutes later. Delicious wine from a great vintage.
We have a lot to be excited about here at La Sirena as we continue to strive toward our goal of being a true wine estate here in Napa Valley. Our biggest news is that we recently acquired a small potential vineyard parcel near our existing Barrett vineyards. We will start planting a couple of acres next year. There is room to build a small winery and dig a cave. My husband Bo and I envision making something incredible from this land in the future. Quite possibly an “Uber-Cab”! Stay tuned as this project develops. We are also updating our website to make it even more informational and easy to use. There will also be a sister site too, HeidiBarrett.com where our customers will have access to some of the other wines I make, as well as info about my artwork, auction lots, etc. Meanwhile we continue to build our reputation, our customer list, and our relationships with all of you who buy and love our wines. As you know, I only do a few select personal appearances as time permits each year to get the word out about La Sirena and introduce the wines to new wine lovers. We will be participating in the Sun Valley wine auction in July, the Family winemaker’s tastings in SF Aug 24/25 and the Napa Valley Wine Library Tasting in August. I always enjoy meeting those of you who drink my wines so please come by and say hello.
Those of you, who know any of my wines, know that they are always balanced, flavorful, elegant and delicious. If I don’t like it, I don’t bottle it! I always try to present my best effort in every wine I make, and I’m so grateful to all of you who appreciate my efforts! It makes it all worthwhile. Just fill out the order form and send it back and you will be rewarded with amazing, beautiful wines that very few people ever have the chance to taste. Come visit us if you are ever in the Napa Valley. As always, thanks a million for your order and keep drinking great wine!
