Welcome to La Sirena Wines, where I blend the art and science of wine. My philosophy is to make the best wines possible with emphasis on the unique characteristics of each individual vineyard. I try to maximize the potential of each vintage in a very balanced, elegant style of winemaking.
The name "La Sirena" means "the Mermaid " in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I was looking for something fun and magical (like wine) and because I am a scuba diver as well as a winemaker.
Hello friends of La Sirena,
It’s feeling a lot like spring here in the Napa Valley with all the beautiful mustard in bloom. With the new season, we have some exciting new wine releases. First is the highly anticipated release of our 2004 Barrett Vineyards Syrah. This is an amazing wine made from our own little vineyard here in Calistoga. (We sent an e-mail about it but many did not receive it) There were only 127 cases produced so the wine will only be available for a short time. Very dense and rich, a beauty indeed. We also have the new vintage of our Napa Syrah, 2004 which is a big rich delicious wine that is drinking like silk. Last but not least the brand new 2007 Moscato Azul, our fun, dry white wine made from Muscat Canelli. Fact sheets and tasting notes are available on our website, Lasirenawine.com. All three are delicious and we look forward to sharing them with you!
Here's what Robert Parker had to say about these wines:
"A new offering from well-known winemaking consultant Heidi Barrett (wife of Bo Barrett of Chateau Montelena) is the 2004 Syrah Barrett Vineyard from a family vineyard located near their home in Calistoga. A knock out effort. It boasts aromas blackberries, blueberries, acacia flowers, and hints of toasty oak as well as spice. Dense, rich and opulent, it is ideal for drinking over the next 5-7 years. Sadly, only 127 cases were produced."
"Syrah is becoming an increasingly important component in Heidi Barrett’s portfolio. In 2004 she has a total of three Syrah’s from three totally different appellations. The 2004 Syrah Napa, which comes from a western hillside vineyard overlooking Lake Hennessey is a fleshier, deeper blue and black-fruited style of Syrah with some charcoal and tar notes. It is lusher and fuller (than the Santa Ynez)."
”A wine that Heidi Barrett does better than just about anybody in California is her unbelievable fun Moscato Azul… reminiscent of northern Italy’s fames Moscato’s. A slow cold fermentation renders a wine with an explosive perfume of spring flowers and tropical fruits. This is an ideal aperitif or breakfast wine, or it can be enjoyed at the end of a meal”. And… ”Barrett has hit pay dirt with a lively, consumer-friendly dry Muscat…It’s a shame more California wineries don’t produce these wines... It is fresh, light bodied, and crisp…seductive aromatics” Wine of the Day 1/25/07 RP online 2006 wine
In my last letter I mentioned that I am focusing more and more on La Sirena. These efforts are paying off as we continue to build our reputation, our mailing list, and our relationships with all of you who buy and love our wines. I only do a few select personal appearances as time permits each year to get the word out about La Sirena and introduce the wines to new wine lovers. This spring I'm doing events for Pebble Beach, and Hilton Head in NC. We poured the Barrett Syrah at the Bon Apetit dinner before the premier of the new movie “Bottle Shock” at the Sundance film festival in January. Special wine for a very special event. I also did a print ad for the California tourism campaign called “the Land of Food and Wine”. It will be in many wine and food magazines this year so watch for that. It's a fun one.
Those of you, who know any of my wines, know that they are always balanced, flavorful, elegant and delicious. If I don’t like it, I don’t bottle it! I always try to present my best effort in every wine I make, and I’m so grateful to all of you who appreciate my efforts! It makes it all worthwhile. Just fill out the order form and send it back and you will be rewarded with amazing, beautiful wines that very few people ever have the chance to taste. Watch for our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon release in May or June. Come visit us if you are ever in the Napa Valley, and invite your friends to join our mailing list as well to receive future offerings of special wines. As always, thanks a million for your order and keep drinking great wine!
